BY AISYAH SAINI

Now, thrifting isn’t for the weak. It takes patience, self-control, time, dedication and even luck. Whether that be sifting through racks and racks of clothing, digging through containers or even swiping endlessly through an app with Thryffy, it can take a while before finding your perfect thrifted piece for a really good price. However, the rewards do outweigh the challenges and to all new-comers or even regular thrift-ers, here are some good thrifting tips!

HAVE A PLAN

When thrifting, it can be overwhelming seeing the number of items in the store so do limit what you’re looking for based on specific garments or your preferred style. This will save you time from endlessly wandering around and it saves you money!

DRESS APPROPRIATELY

In a thrift they don’t tend to have fitting rooms which makes it difficult to try stuff on. Therefore, where something that allows you to slip clothing on and off. It also helps you from buying clothes that aren’t your size!

SET A BUDGET

It can be easy to find yourself engulfed in thrifting due to the low prices and you might not realise how much you spend. A good way to set a budget is by bringing cash, leave any credit cards at home so that way you’re able to see what you’re spending and then spend less!

SCAN THE AISLES

To not waste time, look at the clothes the store sells. Do they have what I want? Can I get lower prices elsewhere? Train your eyes to scan what’s in stock so that you have a clearer mind when shopping. Make your way through the store and scan for pieces that stand out!

LEARN HOW TO DISCERN QUALITY

This tip can really help you to think whether it’s worth buying or not. Does the item have loads of stains on it and is it worth it for this price? Will the material be able to last? These questions can help you when thrifting!
